Wild Dogs have a strong and unpleasant body odour.They are the most effecient predators in Africa because they hunt in disciplined packs. When wild dogs meet after an absence, they perform a greeting ceremony. This ceremony is also performed before a hunt. Description Also known as the Cape hunting dog and the African Wild Dog. 65cm at the shoulders, big round ears, slender, wiry body. It's coat is coarse and pied (black, yellow and white blotches). Predators: Hyena and leopard hunt pups and lion and hyena sometimes kill adults in food disputes. Family Ties: Wild Dogs live in packs from 10 - 40 dogs and have a friendly relationship with each other. They act in the common interest of the pack, rather than on their own, and are very well disciplined when hunting in packs. They protect each other against predators and sick or injured dogs get the chance to rest and recover while being fed by active pack members. |
