Unique Features
Oribi are the smallest grazing bovids. The bond between the mating male and female is very strong. They live as a family with their offspring. If the male is killed, the female will live alone until another male take her over with her territory. Description Shoulder height 60cm. Short, vertical horns, ridged at the base. White face markings, silky, orange-red coat. They have 6 sets of scent glands used to mark territory and for reproductive behavior. Predators: The Oribi's main predator is the leopard, lion and wild dogs. Oribi lambs may also be taken by jackal. Their first reaction to danger is to flatten themselves on the ground. Family Ties: Oribis live in family groups consisting of an adult male, an adult female and their offspring. The Oribi family is territorial and inhabit the same territory for several years. |
