Tssessebe (antelope) |
Unique Features
Despite their ungainly appearance, Tsessebe are the fastest of all hoofed animals and can gallop for long distances in a distinctive, bouncing gait. Description Shoulder height 120cm. Dark plum-colored coat, ringed crescent-shaped horns. Predators: Tsessebe are preyed upon by a wide range of carnivores such as lion, cheetah, leopard and hyena. Their main defense is speed - although they are no match for the cheetah who throw them off balance in a chase. Family Ties: Their society consists of solitary males, bachelor herds and harem herds. The harem herds consist of a mature male, a number of cows, their female offspring and young male offspring. |
