Unique Features
This large antelope stands 140cms at the shoulder and weighs around 300kgs. Only the kudu bulls have the magnificent spiraled horns - around 180cms in length. Kudu are agile jumpers and can clear heights in excess of 2 and a half meters. They are also surprisingly agile in wooded areas. Description The kudu are tall, slender bovids with a distinct white bar between the eyes and a sandy to bluish grey coat. The kudu has 6 - 10 vertical white stripes on the body. The females have no horns and are much smaller than the males. Predators Their main predators are lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dogs. Kudus are timid and retiring animals and usually freeze when alarmed or try to slip cautiously away. Family Ties A group of cows, their female offspring and young male calves form the basic social unit of about 6-15 individuals. |
