Unique Features
The Sable Antelope usually stands 1,35cm high at the shoulder and has vivid black and white face markings, white belly, dark mane, and its coat varies from a rich brown to almost black in old bulls. It's ridged horns curve backward. Predators Sable Antelope are preyed upon by a wide variety of predators, including lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dogs and hyenas. Aggression is their best defense against their enemies. A cornered sable lies down and defends itself with slashing thrusts of its horns. Family Ties Adult sable males are territorial, and young males live in bachelor groups. Females and young form breeding herds of 20-30 in number. Large groups of up to 200 sable may group together. Sable rarely mix with other species |
